This year's golf outing will be held at the Purdue Ackerman Hills Course and is coordinated by the Indiana Animal Health Foundation and Purdue Veterinary Medicine. Registration opens at 11:00 a.m., Brunch 11:15 a.m., Shot Gun Start 12:30 p.m. with appetizers and awards at 5:30 p.m. All funds raised will be used for scholarships and the support of student activities (i.e. Boiler Vet Camp, etc.) We are excited about this partnership - Plan to attend!

Please join us Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m. to get your conference week off to a great start as we celebrate the 5-year anniversary of the Dolores McCall Pet Tribute Garden, a Gift from the Class of 1972 located just outside of the Small Animal Hospital. After the short program, a reception with hors d'oeuvres will occur in the Continuum Café in Lynn Hall. At 7:00 p.m., immediately following the anniversary reception, the Elanco Lecture for the Center for the Human-Animal Bond welcomes Dr. Susan Prieto-Welch, Director CAPS Program, who will explore the topic of grief associated with pet loss.

Dean Willie Reed hosts an appreciation event each fall for members of the PVM Dean's Club. Dr. Lisa Greenhill, Associate Executive Director for Institutional Research and Diversity at the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges, will be a guest presenter. She will speak on: Key Findings from the DiVersity Matters College Climate Survey. This year's luncheon will be held at the Dauch Alumni Center with transportation provided from the west entrance of Stewart Center to Dauch. Transportation will leave Stewart Center at 11:15 a.m. and the luncheon will officially begin at 11:30 a.m.

The Purdue Clinical Pathology Faculty will offer a full day course for Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians. Technicians with some hematologic experience will achieve the greatest benefit. Case studies will emphasize blood smear evaluation with associated CBC data as the main approach to illustrate key principles in identification and interpretation of important hematologic abnormalities seen in small animal practice. A high instructor to participant ratio, use of individual microscopes, projection of blood smears by video microscopy and PowerPoint visuals are intended to enhance experiential learning and encourage audience participation.

Sponsored by Elanco, this free track will include engaging lectures from PVM's own Dr. Catharine Scott-Moncrieff, Danielle Buchanan, RVT and Dr. Paula Johnson to highlight the roles that Blood Donor Dogs play in veterinary medicine and emergency veterinary care. After sharing a complimentary lunch together, the participants will meet the Blood Donor Dog team and take part in the dedication of the Blood Donor Dog Park specifically designed to serve PVM's Blood Donor Dogs. Afternoon tours to observe the blood collection, separation and storage process will also be offered. Attendees will surely feel inspired by the important role that blood donor dogs play in veterinary medicine, so in their honor and in partnership with the American Red Cross, the attendees and others in the PVM family will have the opportunity to contribute to a human blood drive. The morning lectures for this event are worth 4 CE credits.

Hands-On Behavior Assessments - Almost Home Humane Society

After a live demonstration, workshop participants will be guided on conducting behavior assessments with shelter dogs, using the Match-Up II Shelter Dog Rehoming Program. Safety will be encouraged by practicing efficient handling skills. Focus will be on developing better accuracy at recognizing canine body language and performing assessments consistently. Opportunities for positive peer-review will also be encouraged. Participants must attend the morning behavior lectures. This session will be held at the Almost Home Humane Society in Lafayette, IN and shuttle bus service from the west entrance of Stewart Center will be provided. Long pants and closed toed shoes are required. Participants are also welcome to bring cameras and/or video recorders.
Participation is limited to 16. Registrants on a waiting list will be able to observe at no charge.

The new Dr. Skip Jackson Dog Jog combines the annual Road Race and the student-run Dog Jog for a great event that embraces the rich tradition and history of Purdue Veterinary Medicine. This 5K run/walk, sponsored by McAfee Animal Hospital attracts faculty, staff, students, alumni and their dogs. The race will begin at 8:00 a.m. from Lynn Hall and route through campus on Saturday, September 22, 2012, the conclusion of the Fall Conference week. All proceeds will go to the PetSafe Program, a community service offered by Purdue University's College of Veterinary Medicine to meet the short-term housing needs of pets whose owners are temporarily unable to provide care.
