CURRICULUM

Ø    The courses required for each track will vary depending on the background and specific research interests, needs and career goals of the student.

Ø    All students regardless of their tracks are expected to acquire knowledge and training in the following areas through formal course work, workshops, or other experiences:

ª   Biostatistics

ª   Biochemistry

ª   Bioethics

ª   Scientific Writing

ª   Grant Writing

ª   Communications/Public Speaking

 

Ø    Students who choose the comparative biomedicine track will spend at least 4-8 weeks during their first year in at least two research laboratories at Purdue University before selecting a dissertation topic.

Ø    For students contemplating a career in industry or government, faculty will arrange an off-campus placement with an appropriate company (e.g., a biotechnology, pharmaceutical company) or federal/state agency depending on the areas of interests.

Ø    All students in the program will be expected to take the 3-week summer course in Applied Management Principles offered by the Krannert School of Management.
