The Department of Basic Medical Sciences encompasses molecular to whole animal approaches and generally emphasizes molecular processes in development as applied to growth, differentiation, regeneration, and oncogenesis. Model systems are employed to investigate both animal and human disease, as well as biomedical engineering.

the Department of Comparative Pathobiology. Comparative Pathobiology is the study of disease phenomena basic to all species including humans, at the molecular, cellular, organismal and ecosystem level. Our faculty, staff and students are involved in research and learning in a variety of areas including pathology, infectious diseases and vaccines, cancer biology, nanomedicine, toxicology, disease surveillance and human-animal interactions. The goal of the research is to discover and test new technologies for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease in animals and people.

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences collaborates with faculty in the other departments and has research strengths in oncology, paralysis, diseases of bones and joints, experimental surgery, reproductive medicine, urology/nephrology, ophthalmology, gastroenterology, biosecurity and livestock herd health (especially in diseases of swine). Internships (including minority internships) are offered as a part of the clinical training program. Residencies are offered in large and small animal internal medicine, large and small and animal surgery, cardiology, ophthalmology, clinical oncology, and diagnostic imaging.
Offices
Strong relationships with people like you – whether you’re a graduate or former student, faculty or staff member, or friend of the university – are what make it possible for us to impact the lives of those around us every day. The role of our office is to build and make the most of these relationships.

The over-arching goal of the veterinary college’s Office of Diversity Initiatives is to provide leadership for a multilayered response to diversity issues specific to the veterinary medical profession. These issues include recruiting and retaining a diverse group of faculty, staff and students, and providing our students with opportunities to increase their intercultural competencies.

The Office of Engagement will provide leadership for the College's efforts in implementing our strategic goal of providing service and knowledge that impact our global society. Our College is excited to foster partnerships that will support the people in our College of Veterinary Medicine family and our broad range of engagement activities.

We hope that you are able to take part in the many Lifelong Learning programs available through the College of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue University.
