Assistant/Associate Professor

Musculoskeletal Biology

Department of Basic Medical Sciences

 

The Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time, academic year, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Basic Medical Sciences, depending on experience and qualifications.  The successful candidate must have a PhD and relevant post-doctoral experience in the area of bone/cartilage/joint biology and/or musculoskeletal disease.  Preference will be given to individuals who also hold a D.V.M. (or equivalent) or M.D. degree.  The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain an extramurally-funded research program and participate in interdisciplinary and collaborative research programs that have an emphasis on animal models of disease and translational research.  Faculty at Purdue have a long history of collaboration with the  biomedical device and orthopedics industries and the candidate will have the opportunity to work with established research programs with links to those industries.  Faculty in the Department of Basic Medical Sciences participate in cross-campus interdisciplinary programs such as the NCI supported Center for Cancer Research, Biomedical Engineering (Musculoskeletal and Orthopaedic Innovation Program), and various research centers in Discovery Park.  The applicant will be a member of the Medical Discovery Resource Unit which is a core facility for Purdue University and also for the new NCRR Indiana Clinical and Translational Science Institute. The Indiana CTSI provides opportunities for collaboration with Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis.

 

The new strategic plan of the school encourages multidisciplinary discovery programs with emphasis on four signature research program areas of infectious diseases, cancer biology, neuroscience and biomedical engineering and promotes individual faculty, staff, and student development and a collegial work environment enhanced by diversity.  We seek individuals with excellent professional and communication skills who will prosper in this exciting and diverse environment. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the educational mission of the School through participation in professional or graduate programs in the School of Veterinary Medicine.
