Areas of Interest

  • The physiology of neurons in the central nervous system is dramatically altered following injury. I am interested in understanding the mechanisms which allow the established neuron networks to persist or fail following injury and to discover the potential of re-building nervous tissue from resident stem cell populations or from transplants. Specifically, I like to know the essential roles of support cells, such as microglia and astroglia, in restoration and preservation of nervous system function.

  • Training in Evidence Based Medicine will not only depend on medical research but also to a large extend on the education of practitioners. In my future teaching endeavors I am aspiring to use integrated methods of program delivery like “Problem Based Learning” and “Team Based Learning”.
