The physiology of neurons in the central nervous system is dramatically altered following injury. I am interested in understanding the mechanisms which allow the established neuron networks to persist or fail following injury and to discover the potential of re-building nervous tissue from resident stem cell populations or from transplants. Specifically, I like to know the essential roles of support cells, such as microglia and astroglia, in restoration and preservation of nervous system function.

Training in Evidence Based Medicine will not only depend on medical research but also to a large extend on the education of practitioners. In my future teaching endeavors I am aspiring to use integrated methods of program delivery like “Problem Based Learning” and “Team Based Learning”.
