Goals of the UNESCO UNITWIN-Network
The main goals of the UNITWIN-Network are:
- To develop twinning and other linking arrangements (programs of cooperation)
between participating institutions;
- To improve national and regional capabilities for modernizing undergraduate
biological sciences education;
- Developing a cadre of local faculty that can apply modern educational technology
and theory to the improvement of education;
- Designing and developing sharable, innovative, instructional programs. Developing
strategies for integration of interactive multimedia into pilot courses
and curricula in the biological sciences.
- Purdue University will work with the UNESCO and the UNITWIN-Network to secure
funding from the UNESCO and/or other institutions or entities to carry out
the following activities:
- Improving National and Regional Capabilities
- Development of an integrated plan aiming at improving the present traditional
instructional methods still followed in teaching biological sciences in
Arab States universities and at Purdue University through
- Developing a cadre of local faculty skilled in application of modern educational
technologies
- Developing sharable educational products
- Designing and developing pilot educational programs in biological sciences
- Developing strategies for encouraging adoption of successful programs and
curricula by other institutions.
- Strengthening of the university's infra-structure through acquisition of
computers, teaching materials and information products (CD-ROMs, Laser/Video
Disks)
- Encouraging the transfer of knowledge and faculty expertise through faculty
exchange and consultation visits.
- Seeking financial support from various funding agencies to support and sustain
the technical activities of the network.
