Conclusion:
It
is important to realize the impact of natural disasters such as Hurricane
Mitch. The damage of Mitch continues; the infrastructure, economy, and population
suffer immense losses. Veterinarians play a large role in the reconstruction
process. They provide education, technical assistance, and aid in policy issues.
I feel that my summer experience in Honduras was a rewarding one. I was able
to learn about tropical veterinary medicine as well as ways in which to improve
conditions following a major disaster. This has greatly enriched my veterinary
career and illuminated to me the necessity of international veterinary medicine
and policy.
