International Visits and Invited Presentations . Dr. Coppoc (Basic Medical Sciences) Dr. Nour (Basic Medical Sciences) and Dr. Lehman (Curriculum and Instruction) were invited by UNESCO's Regional Office for Science and Technology in the Arab States to conduct two workshops on New Methodologies and Technologies in teaching Biological Sciences, United Arab Emirates, UAE; University of Qatar, Doha, Qatar. March 3-11, 1996. Dr. Khalifa of sister-institution Ain Shams University was also invited to present the work he developed, at Purdue's Basic Medical Sciences Department on multimedia for biological sciences teaching.

Dr. Mittal, Molecular Virologist, School of Veterinary Medicine, was invited to visit Jordan on August 9-10 as part of SVM on going collaboration with JUST. Dr. Mittal gave two seminars 1) Novel approaches to design effective vaccines and 2) Use of viral vectors in human gene therapy, which generated a lot of interest. The first seminar was presented to faculty and students in the school if veterinary medicine, while the second seminar was presented to the faculty and students of the faculty of medicine.

Dr. Mittal also discussed, JUST faculty several teaching issues of interest to JUST and possible research collaboration with PUSVM. He interviewed, upon request of Veterinary Pathobiology Graduate Committee, three potential graduate students who demonstrated keen interest to join SVM graduate program. Drs Mohammed AlDuwayri (Vice President), Orphan Alpan (Acting Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine), and Nabil Hailat (Vice Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine) were interested in involving SVM at Purdue in development of graduate training program at JUST. As a follow-up JUST proposal was discussed and there is interest in working together with JUST to develop such a program.

Dr. Mittal attended the International Congress of Virologists in August, 1996, in Jerusalem and presented a paper entitled " Bovine adenovirus-based vector as potential delivery vehicles for recombinant vaccines and gene therapy"
