Research Interests

Studies of immune function, especially phagocytic cell function as related to the immune system. Our lab has an interest in the role of oxygen and nitrogen radicals in microvascular function, tissue injury, and wound healing. Current projects are related to alterations in immune functions after tissue injury, as well as studies on the effects of toxic chemicals on immune function of neutrophils and monocytes. We are also interested in application of flow cytometry to identification of microbes using fluorescence and scatter properties. Particular interests are in flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, and development of both methodological and technological advancements in this field. We have also developed expertise in using multimedia tools for educational purposes. In this area, our laboratory has been developing new technologies for distribution of Internet based learning tools. In particular, we have created material for high school biology using a WEB based CD-ROMS.
