Office of Research Programs

The Office of Research Programs provides administrative support and aims to facilitate research and research training in the School of Veterinary Medicine.

By linking people, knowledge and first-class facilities in the pursuit of scientific discovery, the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine is well positioned to help solve existing and emerging animal and human health issues.

Our School's research program emphasizes the following key areas that are the focus for future growth and development:

  • infectious diseases
  • cancer biology
  • neuroscience
  • biomedical engineering

The overarching characteristics of the biomedical research in the School of Veterinary Medicine are comparative medicine and translational medicine.  Comparative medicine refers to the fact that the research crosses species from laboratory rodents to domesticated animals to human beings. The recognition of similarities and differences between species often leads to a better understanding of disease processes. Translational medicine refers to the continuum of basic science through clinical applications in veterinary and human medicine. In addition, the research in the School of Veterinary Medicine is highly interdisciplinary in nature as our faculty collaborates with engineers, biologists, chemists, pharmacists and other scientists across campus and at other institutions.

The research in the School of Veterinary Medicine provides educational and hands-on training opportunities for undergraduate students, veterinary students, graduate students and post-docs. The combination of faculty expertise, research facilities and a collegial atmosphere creates an excellent learning and research environment.
