PVM and Purdue Press Develop New Human-Animal Bond Resource

Purdue Veterinary Medicine's Center for the Human Animal Bond and Purdue University Press are partnering to develop a new online resource to further the study of the human-animal bond. Scheduled for launch in early 2012, the site, called "HABRI Central," will serve as a comprehensive bibliography and repository of scholarly material, an online publishing platform for peer-reviewed content, and a virtual collaborative community for those involved in human-animal bond studies. Purdue University has produced a video about HABRI Central, which features interviews with Center for the Human Animal Bond Director Alan Beck and Associate Professor of Library Science Gretchen Stephens, as well as scenes of staff and students in the Small Animal Hospital and a Department of Comparative Pathobiology research lab. HABRI Central is the first project to be funded by the nonprofit Human Animal Bond Research Initiative (HABRI) Foundation, the founding sponsors of which are the American Pet Products Association, PETCO and Pfizer Animal Health. The collaborators are receiving a grant of $831,535 for the project.  Dr. Beck and Purdue Press Director Charles Watkinson will oversee the project. An editorial board of internationally acclaimed experts in the field will ensure that content is relevant to the community of human-animal bond scholars.
