Purdue’s Student Chapter of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists  (SCACVP) works to make pathology relevant to all veterinary students through various wet labs, guest speakers and other activities that highlight a career in Veterinary Pathology.  There are many avenues a veterinary pathologist may take whether working for the pharmaceutical industry, government, wildlife, academia, or as a consultant.  We bring speakers from these different areas so that you can get a better idea of what opportunities are available in this unique and exciting field.
In the past we have had speakers, from NIH, Southwest Primate Research Center, Lilly, Abbott Laboratories, and the USDA.  Our talks range from case presentations from our clinical pathology and anatomic pathology residents, to careers in biomedical sciences, primate research, how to investigate a TB outbreak, to infectious disease of reptiles and poultry.
We do our best to hold meetings and wet labs to supplement your educational experience here at Purdue University SVM.  Our tentative wet lab plans include familiarizing students with sample collection for clinical pathology in addition to training students on biopsy sample collection and preparation.  In the past we have held labs that allowed students to practice cytologic techniques and urinalysis.
SCACVP supports those students interested in pathology as a career by facilitating meetings with visiting pathologists, trips to the annual ACVP meeting, and providing information about internship and externship activities of interest.
