The VBMA is a relatively new organization to join the various student groups at the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine.  Beginning with our recognition as a chapter in 2004, we have enjoyed continued success over the past few years, bringing recognition to our group as a whole, as well as many of our members individually.  Currently, we are one of 17 national chapters enjoying tremendous success and that number is growing constantly.

It is our belief that while we receive extensive knowledge throughout our veterinary education in the fields of medicine, anatomy, surgery, pharmacology, etc., but we are very limited in other real world information sets including business, management, and interpersonal skills.  The business courses that we do receive simply do not have enough time to cover all of the material needed. Skills such as contract negotiation, debt management, practice purchasing, understanding the job market and economy, veterinary ethics and law, practice ownership, and investing in our futures will all inevitably be encountered in our careers, but many of us will know nothing about these topics.  We will all graduate with DVM degrees, but will we all truly we ready to enter the world of veterinary medicine and have a successful career?  The VBMA helps complete our education by bringing in various speakers from locations as close as Purdue University’s Krannert School of Management to numerous national speakers regarded as experts in the fields of veterinary business, management, and relations.

Business education is essential to our field and we simply do not get enough time allotted for business courses while attending veterinary school.  Please help our organization achieve our goal of improving business awareness in the veterinary field by joining our chapter and becoming an active member.   If you have any questions please feel free to contact any of our officers or members.  Additional information can be found downstairs by room G155 and on our national website at www.vbma.biz (chapter website will be available soon).
