Interests
  • Biocompatibility - Our focus is on biocompatibility issues as they relate to orthopedic implants.
  • Arthritis - We are interested in the role of the synovial macrophage in the different forms of arthritis, particularly rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. The goal of these studies is to develop new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to these conditions.
  • Skeletal Development - We have a particular interest in constitutional bone and joint diseases and musculoskeletal disorders of young, growing animals.
Research Techniques
Studies originating in our laboratory range from clinical studies on naturally occuring disease to cell culture and histopathological studies. Research techniques that we have utilized include radiography, CT-scanning, ultrasound, scintigraphy, DEXA-scanning, histopathology, immunocytochemistry, autoradiography, light microscopy, polarization microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, cell culture and flow cytometry.
Collaborations
Most of our investigations are multidisciplinary and involve collaborations from within and outside Purdue University.
