Upon completion, students choose between entering the veterinary profession as a registered veterinary technician (RVT) or continuing their education for another one to two years to earn a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree and become a veterinary technologist.

The B.S. in Veterinary Technology is offered in a 3 1/2 year plan. Students earn an associate degree after completing one year of general college courses and the two-year clinical program. They often obtain their RVT certification after receiving the associate degree, but usually continue their studies for another year to earn a B.S. degree. Graduates of the associate degree program who enter the profession also have the option of returning later to complete a B.S. degree.
