VM 301 Seminar for Veterinary Technologists I - Sem. 1, Class 1, Cr. 1. Prerequisite: For V 907 juniors or consent of instructor. Discussion of case situations that illustrate problem analysis at the technologist level
VM 365 Laboratory Animal Science - Sem.1, Class 3, Cr. 3. Prerequisites: VM 204, VM 250 or consent of instructor open to campus. This course will cover the principles of laboratory animal science for the technologist (veterinary and LATG). Concepts of facility management, animal health and disease, regulatory issues, compliance and instrumentation will be presented.
VM 366 Concepts of Veterinary Hospital Management - Sem. 2, Class 2, Lab 2, Cr. 3. Prerequisite: VM 277 or consent of instructor. Principles of management of the veterinary hospital, including human resources, inventory, clientele, finances and hospital areas. Emphasis will be on the role of the veterinary hospital manager.
VM 414 Seminar for Veterinary Technologists II - Sem. 1, Class 1, Cr. 1. Prerequisite: VM 301 & VM 390. Case studies from practicums will be presented in seminar format to illustrate problem analysis at the technologist level.
VM 463 Special Project - Sem. 1, Class 2, Cr. 1. Prerequisite: Senior standing in V 907. Research paper or service project in the student's focus of career interest. Paper or project will be presented in seminar format.
VCS 467 Diagnostic Instrumentation - Sem. 2, Class 1, Lab 3, Cr. 2. Prerequisite: Senior VT standing or consent of instructor. A laboratory in the utilization, care, and maintenance of electronic equipment used in veterinary diagnostics.
BMS 464 Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology - Sem. 2, Class 1, Cr. 1. Prerequisite: BMS 241. For VT seniors or consent of instructor. The common toxicants and advanced topics on the drugs most commonly encountered in veterinary medicine will be covered. Emphasis will be on mechanisms, indications, contraindications, and proper applications and handling of these drugs.
VM 390 Practicum - Sem. 1, 2, or SS, Cr. 4. Prerequisite: Senior V 907 standing or consent of instructor. Veterinary technologist-level off-campus experience in one area of interest totaling 480 hours over 12 weeks.
VM 367 Foundations of Instruction for Allied Health Professionals - Sem. 2, Class 1, Cr. 1. Prerequisite: Junior standing - open to campus. Introduction to assessing student learning needs and applying teaching methods to the education of allied health, veterinary, pharmacy, and graduate students.
VCS 418 Applied Small Animal Behavior - Sem. 2, Class 2, Cr. 2. Prerequisite: Junior V 907 standing or consent of instructor. Clinical applications of canine and feline behavior problems. The normal and common abnormal behaviors of domestic dogs and cats will be presented. Emphasis will be on taking clinical history from owner, observing animals, and establishing behavioral modification treatment plans as part of the veterinary team.
