Bachelor of
Science Degree Program 2 + 2 Option
This program is designed to enable graduate veterinary technicians
to become veterinary technologists. Transfer students from
other AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technician programs may
enter the second half of the 2 + 2 program and earn a Bachelor of Science
Degree in Veterinary Technology from the Purdue University School
of Veterinary Medicine.
This 2+2 BS Degree program builds upon college credits and the Associate
Degree earned from an AVMA-accredited two-year veterinary technician program.
It offers veterinary technologist-level courses (post-technician) in the
veterinary school, electives from other schools on the Purdue campus,
and a twelve-week (480 hour) practicum in the student’s chosen area of
career emphasis for the profession.
A total of
128 credit hours is required for the BS Degree including credit for AS
Degree courses from another AVMA-accredited VT program. Transfer students
must complete a minimum of 32 Purdue University - West Lafayette campus
credits at 300/400 levels for graduation.
A Practicum
is required. Off-campus location of Practicums is encouraged. The Practicum
is to be a clinical, teaching, or research learning experience in an area
of interest for 480 hours (4 credits). Note: the practicum is typically
completed during the summer session. For purposes of financial aid, 4
hours would be considered part-time status.
2+2 BS Degree Curriculum for the Final Two Years
Semesters 1 - 4 = 70 credit hours earned at previous AVMA accredited VT
program.
