ADMISSIONS PROCEDURE

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Students requesting to be enrolled in VT-DLP courses for University Credit will be required to apply for admission to the Associate Degree program.Once students have been successfully admitted to Purdue University and the Associate Degree in Veterinary Technology, they may register for courses by downloading a registration form from the VT-DLP web site, completing it, and sending it with a check to the VT-DLP office. (See Registration for Classes).Students who have NOT completed pre-requisites for Admission to Purdue University will be required to do so before being able to apply earned University Credit courses towards the Associate Degree.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

1. High school graduation or equivalent (a high school transcript is required)

2. Minimum high school subject matter prerequisites:

  • Biology 2 semesters
  • Chemistry 2 semesters
  • Academic Math 4 semesters
    • Math requirements will increase to 6 semesters beginning in the January 2011 admission process.
  • English 8 semesters

    (note: these deficiencies may be made up with college-level courses)

3. All applicants must be 18 years of age.

4. Submission of the SAT-I or the ACT. Only students who have completed the equivalent of one full year or more of college-level work, or who have been out of high school a minimum of five years are exempt from submitting SAT/ACT results.

5. Students will be required to sign an affidavit signifying their ability to meet the Technical Standards as set forth by the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine (see Technical Standards section of the VT-DLP Student Handbook)


TECHNICAL STANDARDS

Admission to Purdue University is contingent upon the student meeting the Technical Standards. Technical Standards are set up to identify the minimum abilities required to safely perform skills required in the veterinary environment and for our accreditation by the AVMA.

At the time of registration, the student is required to sign a statement as to whether or not they can meet the Technical Standards.

ADMISSIONS PROCEDURE:

Although there are deadlines for admissions to a particular term (fall, spring, summer), admission applications can be submitted at any time.

You may wish to print out these directions for reference as you progresst rhough the admissions process.

1. Click here to proceed to the Admission webpage and complete an on-line application for Veterinary Technology Distance Learning.

2. Click on "Click here to apply for enrollment" at the top of the Admission webpage.

3. Click "First time user account creation" at the bottom of the Enrollment page to create a login/password for yourself.

4. Log into system.

5. Choose option 9 "Veterinary Technology Distance Learning Students"

6. Complete the required information and submit the on-line application and fees.

7. All high school and college transcripts should be submitted directly to the Office of Admissions following completion of the on-line admission application. High school subject matter pre-requisites are listed above.

  • Should your college transcripts contain all of the listed high school level pre-requisites, then you do not have to submit high school transcripts.
  • If your college transcripts do NOT contain the pre-requisites listed above, you will be asked to submit high school transcripts.

8. Once the Office of Admissions will evaluate your Application and transcripts, and will notiy you of your acceptance or non-acceptance.

IF YOU DO NOT TAKE VTDLP CLASSES THE SEMESTER YOU ARE ADMITTED,
IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBLITY TO CONTACT THE OFFICE OF ADMISSIONS
AND REQUEST A DEFERMENT TO A LATER TERM.


WHAT IF I AM NOT ADMITTED?

Students must meet the pre-requisite requirements for Admission to Purdue University and the Associate of Science Degree in Veterinary Technology (Distance Learning).

The Office of Admissions can advise a student on academic deficiencies, encumbrances on their record from previous college work, or other reasons that may need to be resolved before a student an be admitted to Purdue University and the Associate Degree program.


READMISSIONS PROCEDURE:

If you need to take a break from the program and are in good academic standing, you may do so. You may sit out for two consecuative terms without having to reapply of admission to the program.

If you stay out 3 consecuative terms, you must submit an online re-entry application to the Office of Admissions prior to registering for the term in which you wish to return. This reactivates your file with Purdue University and will allow you to register for classes. To complete there-entry application, visit the Admissions Application Login site and initiate a new application by creating a new login ID and PIN. Create a new application and be sure to choose option 6 "Re-Entry Students" application from the list of application types. In the Planned Course of Study section of your application, choose Veterinary Technology Distance Learning.
