Clinical Pathology Laboratory
Welcome to the Clinical Pathology Laboratory at Purdue University Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Our lab is directed and staffed by four Veterinary Clinical Pathologists, three residents and six technical staff consisting of certified Medical Technologists (MT/MLT, ASCP). The laboratory services we provide include: chemistry, hematology, coagulation, endocrinology, urinalysis, and cytology testing. We receive samples from our hospital clinicians, outside clinics and research institutions on routine and research samples. Samples from multiple species are analyzed daily using state-of-the-art automated equipment. We strive to provide the most accurate and precise results in a timely manner.
Quality of Testing performed at the Clinical Pathology Laboratory:
Our lab performs quality control daily and preventative maintenance as per manufacturer recommendations. We also participate in two external quality assurance programs. Our American Proficiency Institute QA Program is performed every other month. This program compares data generated from unknown samples analyzed in our lab with data from the same analyzer at other laboratories. We also participate in the EQUAS QA testing administered by Michigan State University. The routine testing of quality control and proficiency program material allows us to continuously check the well-being of our instruments, reagents and staff’s testing techniques and abilities.
