College of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital

The Purdue Veterinary Teaching Hospital in partnership with local shelters and Animal Control offices to provide emergency care for injured animals whose owners may be unknown. Some of the local organizations that we work

with are: Almost Home Humane Society in Lafayette, Indiana, and the animal control offices in Lafayette,

West Lafayette, and Tippecanoe.

If domesticated animals are found that do not have an identified owner and are found within the city limits of either Lafayette or West Lafayette, the Animal Control Office should be contacted in that city to pick up the animal and they are taken to the Almost Home Humane Society, or one can take the animal directly to the humane society themselves.  Once there, if medical treatment is needed, the animal is brought to us by the Humane Society for care and

treatment.

If domesticated animals are found outside the city limits of Lafayette and West Lafayette, but within Tippecanoe

County, one should call the Tippecanoe Animal Control office.  If the animal needs medical treatment, we work

with the Tippecanoe County Animal Control to provide care and treatment.

For more information about either of these organizations, please see the below links.
