Collection Information

FIXED TISSUES - Submit tissues in a leak proof, wide mouth jar designated for 10% neutral buffered formalin (please do NOT use glass jars, pill bottles, or plastic bags). Ensure the formalin to tissue ratio is at least 10:1.

During winter months add 10% of isopropyl alcohol to the formalin solution (e.g., 1 part isopropyl alcohol to 9 parts 10% NBF) to prevent specimen freezing during transport.

Shipping Information

Ship tissue samples in a leakproof primary container. Place primary container in secondary, sealable bag to help contain the sample if damaged during shipment. Place sufficient paper towel or other absorbent in secondary container to absorb all formalin should primary container break or leak.

Additional Information
The fee includes routine histochemical (special) stains. Immunohistochemistry will result in additional charges. If required for diagnosis, special stains, additional sections, or immunohistochemistry will delay turnaround time.
