Collection Information
GENERAL - Label all containers with appropriate information - Animal ID, Owner Name, Veterinarian, Sample Type, Date.
SWAB (fecal, respiratory, tissue, purulent) - Synthetic (Dacron/polyester) swabs are recommended. Swabs should be placed in a viral transport system (examples: Viral Culturette, Becton Dickinson; Universal Transport Medium, Copan Diagnostics) or in a sterile, leak proof tube with 0.5 ml sterile saline. Please only utilize bacterial culturette systems for bacterial culture.
FRESH TISSUES - Collect tissues in sterile/clean containers (plastic jars or sealable plastic bags). Separate tissues in different containers and label with tissue type, animal ID, and owner name. MILK - Submit milk in a leak proof container (i.e. plastic conical tube) with appropriate labeling.
Shipping Information

PAPERWORK - Package paperwork separately in a waterproof, sealable plastic bag. Ensure paperwork is complete and specimens are labeled for easily matching. If you are using CF.755 Multiple Animal Continuation Form, please include a hard copy and email a copy to addl@purdue.edu.
FRESH TISSUES - If shipping different tissue types, clearly label each container with owner and animal ID (if applicable) and sample/tissue type. Double bag ALL fresh tissues.
Additional Information
This PCR will not detect hemotrophic Mycoplasma spp. Instead, see the vector-borne targeted NGS Panel. This PCR will not detect the Mycoplasma species associated with contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP), contagious caprine pleuropneumonia (CCPP), or contagious agalactia in sheep and goats, except for M. agalactiae. Species not detected include M. capricolum capricolum, M. capricolum capri, M. putrefaciens, and M. mycoides mycoides. If you suspect CBPP or CCPP, both foreign animal diseases, contact the state veterinarian. The results of this test will report out as Mycoplasma spp. Speciation of the Mycoplasma is not included. For specific Mycoplasma results, please see our search results page for Mycoplasma testing.
