Basic Medical Sciences
It’s my pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Basic Medical Sciences (BMS). We are one of the three departments in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue University. As an integral part of a land-grant institution, the Department embraces learning, discovery, and engagement. We focus on understanding and teaching fundamental aspects of health and disease. Simply put the mission of the department is to improve animal and human health. We seek to accomplish this by acting together as leaders in biomedical education and discovery.
BMS enjoys a highly interdisciplinary and diverse faculty which provides exceptional opportunities for student learning in classroom and research laboratory settings. Research strengths in our department can broadly be classified into topics related to Cancer, Neuroscience, and Musculoskeletal biology. As such our faculty serve as committed members and leaders of various disease focused university institutes such as the Purdue Institute Integrative Neuroscience, the Purdue Institute for Cancer Research, and Purdue Center for Musculoskeletal Engineering.
We are fully committed to excellence and innovation in training future Doctors of Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Technicians, and Biomedical Scientists. Come join us as we enter into an unprecedented period of growth within the college under bold new leadership. We invite you to explore our website and find out more about our department.
