Be Prepared for Large Animal Emergencies

The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine will be offering the awareness level Technical Large Animal Emergency Rescue Training (TLAER) on July 27-28, 2024 taught by expert, Dr. Rebecca Husted. The training is a 2-day course consisting of lectures, demonstrations, and practicum hands-on laboratory techniques. The TLAER training courses bring together people from all disciplines by introducing the latest concepts, techniques, procedures, and equipment that is being used today in large animal emergencies. The program is intended for veterinarians, firefighters, EMS, animal control officers, livestock breeders, horse trainers, and any large breed owner who wants to make sure they are prepared.

Participants are required to bring:

  • a helmet of any kind as long as it has a harness,
  • a pair of work gloves, and
  • wear closed toe shoes to the training.

This program includes:

  • 2 full days of training (hands on and classroom),
  • breakfast, lunch and snacks for each day,
  • certificate of completion, and
  • up to 16 hours of continuing education (CE) for eligible licensed professionals as well as written materials.
