Education and Training
Translational biomedical research is by nature multidisciplinary and, therefore, there are no universal translational research (TR) educational programs that are suitable for all members of the translational research team and all stages of the transitional trajectory. The Indiana CTSI facilitates Education and Training programs including education, training, career development, and mentoring for students, staff, fellows and faculty to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of clinical and translational research. These programs are available for CTSI-Purdue members, but are often tailored towards Indiana University.
Beyond the traditional research training opportunities at Purdue University, several programs supporting pre-clinical and clinical comparative translational animal research are available on the West Lafayette campus:
- Summer research scholarships - research opportunities in clinical and basic biomedical sciences for veterinary and undergraduate students
- Graduate degree programs in Basic Science, Pathology and Engineering, Public Health, and Comparative Pre-clinical and Clinical studies
- Veterinary clinician-scientist programs
- Combined DVM-MPH (in collaboration with the University of Minnesota)
- Combined DVM-MS or DVM-PhD
- Combined veterinary specialty training-graduate programs (Residency-MS and Residency-PhD clinician-scientist training programs) in the Departments of Veterinary Clinical Sciences and Comparative Pathobiology
- Veterinary Nursing program - training opportunities for a career in biomedical research
- Ethics training in responsible conduct of research
- Training in the use of animals in research (Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee/Laboratory Animal Program)
These programs support the education and experience needed to ensure a continuous pipeline of highly qualified and successful clinical and translational science researchers in the fields of human and veterinary medicine.
